Response Effort Levels
Response effort controls how deeply the agentic AI searches and reasons before generating an answer. Higher effort produces more thorough answers but uses more usage.
Effort Levels
- Low — Quick lookups and simple questions. The AI does a fast search and returns a concise answer. Best for FAQs and straightforward queries. Lightest on your usage.
- Medium — Balanced depth for most questions. The default setting. Provides detailed answers with relevant context from your documents.
- High — Thorough analysis for complex questions. The AI performs multi-step reasoning, cross-references multiple documents, and produces comprehensive answers. Uses more of your usage.
When to Use Each Level

Changing Effort Level
You can change the effort level in two ways:
- Default setting — Set a default effort level for each chatbot in its settings.
- Per message — Users can change the effort level for individual messages in the chat interface using the effort selector.
If most of your questions are simple, set the default to Low or Medium to keep usage lighter. Users can always switch to High for complex questions.
